Da Men - Chuanghu - Main Door and pair of Windows

A main door and a pair of windows are in exceptionally good condition. Each one is still complete with its frame (door/window casing) and features a wooden plaque inscribed with Chinese characters in the form of quotes. It is even complete with the original door lock, which is a wooden bar placed horizontally across the back of the door as a bolt.

It appears that these belonged to the house of a Chinese individual with a high social status.

It is strongly suggested that these items came from the house of the first Kapitein China (Chinese Captain) in Batavia during the VOC era, named Souw Beng Kong, who held the position between 1580 and 1644, as a photograph of Souw Beng Kong and his wife was found with these items."
